girls a brighter future.
There are so many "firsts" for our newly independent non-profit. Yes, Girls on the Run Willamette Valley has been serving girls since 2007 in Corvallis. But this summer our organization made the big leap to independence. We've struck out independently with gratitude to OSU, KidSpirit and the College of Public Health and Human Sciences for bringing GOTR to life in the Valley. Now we have our first governing board of directors, our new online registration tool, our new website, and our new digs.
And of course, a new blog. It is fitting that our first blog post on the new site features one of first volunteers to jump on board to ensure our success. Rosa Cervantes didn't wait a moment to throw her hat in the ring, roll up her sleeves and dig in to work. During her internship she touched all matters of program management and outreach this summer. Chances are if you are a coach or site liaison you received an email or call from her this summer. Yes, we appreciate that Rosa is technically savvy, organized and thorough in her work. She has history with Girls on the Run coaching for four years and working behind the scenes year-round as staff for GOTR/KidSpirit. We couldn't have transitioned so smoothly this summer without her knowledge of where we've been and where everything is located.
But that's not all to Rosa. She is quick to smile, gentle, and warm with a hilarious sense of humor. Its no wonder the girls at Adams Elementary keep coming back to run with Coach Rosa!
